Installation of the Automated Process Control System (APCS) has been completed across both units of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna. Additionally, Rooppur marks Rosatom’s first international nuclear project outside Russia to implement the Operator Information Support System (OISS). The announcement was made in a press release issued by the Russian state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, on Tuesday afternoon (October 13, 2026).
Supplied by Rosatom’s Automated Control Systems division (RASU), the mechanism encompasses nearly 20,000 components across 43 systems. These will monitor over 7,000 process parameters, including reactor stability, to ensure safe and efficient plant operation. Developed using Digital Twin technology, the OISS analyzes data from 360 process systems, identifies potential deviations, and offers actionable guidance based on over 80 operating rules to assist operators during critical procedures.
Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, highlighted that the Rooppur NPP stands as a flagship project for advanced automation technology, noting that the OISS will significantly reduce response times during emergency scenarios, lower operational costs, and serve as a reliable tool for control room staff. The plant features two VVER-1200 reactors of Generation 3+ technology and is being constructed by Rosatom's engineering division, Atomstroyexport.
