The government will take strict action against individuals involved in the harassment of Nobel laureate and former interim chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, confirmed Prime Minister's Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman.
Addressing reporters during a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 13, 2026), Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman emphasized that the government views the airport harassment incident with gravity.
Video footage circulating on social media showed a group of agitators, allegedly affiliated with the political party Awami League, approaching Dr. Yunus while he was seated in a wheelchair inside the JFK terminal lobby. The group aggressively shouted slogans including "You are a terrorist", "Why did you come here?", and accused him of destroying democracy and harming law enforcement personnel in Bangladesh.
Dr. Yunus, accompanied by senior associate Lamia Morshed and security personnel, was escorted away into safety as the disruption unfolded. Responding to media queries, Adviser Zahed stated that law enforcement and diplomatic channels are being activated to identify those responsible, assuring that those behind the criminal heckling will be held accountable.
