BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Advisor Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated that the former Awami League regime enacted indemnity legislation in the power and energy sector specifically to create opportunities for rampant looting and corruption without legal accountability.
Speaking as the chief guest on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at a national dialogue held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Rizvi highlighted that the current administration maintains strict institutional accountability, preventing such systemic corruption. The dialogue, titled "Rooftop Solar Feasibility & Lifeline Consumer Survey in Rajshahi City Corporation and Shailkupa Municipality: Results & Implementation," was jointed organized by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and the CAB Youth Parliament.
Rizvi criticized previous official claims of 100% electricity coverage, pointing out that marginal communities in remote char areas remain deprived of electricity while low-income families often share single connections. He urged researchers not to treat consumption statistics as absolute indicators of poverty. Emphasizing the immense potential of rooftop solar infrastructure, Rizvi highlighted strong foreign investor interest in Bangladesh's renewable energy landscape, asserting that supplying excess solar power to the national grid will simultaneously mitigate power deficits and create new employment opportunities.
