Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that transactions through Bangla QR codes will be completely free of charge as the government accelerates efforts toward establishing a cashless Bangladesh and a digital economy. Speaking during the inauguration of shopping via Bangla QR codes and an inspection of QR-based transactions at Banani Kitchen Market in the capital, the minister emphasized that no additional fees or service charges will be levied on users.
He highlighted that the initiative aims to integrate citizens from all walks of life—including small traders, street vendors, and rickshaw pullers—into digital financial services, allowing them to receive payments directly into bank or service accounts without carrying cash. Acknowledging potential minor initial technical hurdles, the minister expressed confidence in resolving them swiftly and urged citizens and service providers to participate actively in this national drive toward a secure and cashless economy.
