Bangladesh and Italy Discuss Aviation Investment, Dhaka-Rome Flight Expansion, and Tourism MoU
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where bilateral talks were held between Bangladesh and Italy.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat met with Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro and Deputy Head of Mission Federico Zamparelli at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (October 14, 2026) to discuss expanding bilateral aviation ties, tourism cooperation, and foreign investment.

During the meeting, both parties discussed increasing direct flight frequencies between Dhaka and Rome, attracting Italian investments in aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost tourism exchanges. Responding to Italy's interest in adding more flights to the six weekly services currently operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Minister Millat affirmed that flight frequencies will be increased once new aircraft are inducted into the national fleet to serve European expatriates.

The discussions also focused on leveraging Italian technical expertise for setting up an MRO aviation hub in Bangladesh and developing Cox's Bazar Airport as an international gateway. Furthermore, the meeting explored establishing dedicated "Red Zones" for foreign tourists to guarantee enhanced security, comfort, and premium travel experiences, accommodating the rising influx of Italian travelers visiting Bangladesh.
