President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has recommended forming a representative National Committee comprising members from Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and ethnic minority communities to establish their fair rights, dignity, and socio-economic equality nationwide.
The President made the suggestion on Wednesday afternoon (October 14, 2026) during a courtesy call at Bangabhaban with a 9-member delegation from the Bangladesh Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha, led by its President and Head Abbot of Kamalapur Dhammarajika Bouddha Maha Vihara, Srisaddhammasasanadhvaja Buddhapriya Mahathero. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Ethnic Minority Affairs (State Minister rank) Bijon Kanti Sarkar was also present alongside the President’s military secretary and press team.
During the meeting, President Mirza Fakhrul urged educated members of the Buddhist community to take an active role in advancing youth education and human resource development. Addressing concerns and demands raised by the delegation, he emphasized that forming a unified national committee would allow minority communities to effectively channel their rights, policy demands, and grievances directly to the government. The delegation invited the President to attend the upcoming Kathin Chibar Dan religious ceremony at the Dhammarajika Bouddha Maha Vihara in November, an invitation the President accepted with reassurance.
