To facilitate smooth and comfortable holiday travel for passengers during the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations, Bangladesh Railway has announced the operation of three pairs of special trains and the cancellation of scheduled weekly off days for five prominent train services.
The crucial decisions were finalized during a high-level preparation meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on Sunday (October 11, 2026), presided over by Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping, and Railways Sheikh Rabiul Alam. According to the railway schedule, Dhaka Special-3 will operate from Chittagong to Dhaka on October 20; Tourist Special-1 and 2 will run on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar-Dhaka route on October 20, 23, and 24; and Chittagong Special-4 will operate on the Dhaka-Chittagong route on October 24. Additionally, to manage the heavy holiday rush, weekly off days have been canceled for Cox's Bazar Express (Oct 19 & 20), Jahanabad Express (Oct 19), Rupsha Bangla Express (Oct 19), Padma Express (Oct 20), and Madhumati Express (Oct 24).
To boost passenger capacity, 23 meter-gauge coaches in the eastern zone and six broad-gauge coaches in the western zone will be integrated into regular formations. Enhanced safety measures—including patrolling on tracks, rigorous engine and coach maintenance, round-the-clock relief trains, and executive magistrate duties at Kamalapur and Airport stations on October 19–20—have been instituted in coordination with railway police (GRP) and the Railway Security Force (RNB).
