Bangladesh's robust export growth trajectory witnessed a major milestone during the first quarter (July–September) of the fiscal year 2026–27, with total exports to Turkey surging by 100.11 percent to reach US$210.54 million, up from US$105.21 million during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to official data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
While readymade garments (RMG) continue to form the cornerstone of this bilateral trade—bolstered by shifting labor trends and rising living standards in Turkey that have created domestic production supply gaps—other prominent items exported include jute and jute goods, footwear, and specialized optical, medical, and textile-related equipment.
Discussing the surge, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Executive President Fazle Shamim Ehsan noted that Turkish workers are gradually transitioning away from the RMG sector, opening up substantial demand for imported apparel.
He emphasized that Bangladesh can deeply penetrate this promising market by leveraging its competitive pricing, high product quality, and reliable delivery capabilities, while simultaneously focusing on product diversification and value addition such as high-value man-made fiber (MMF) and technical textiles.
Echoing similar sentiments, EPB Vice Chairman Muhammad Hasan Arif stressed the necessity of a focused assessment regarding product-wise performance and emerging market demands. He noted that beyond RMG, diversified jute goods and manufactured footwear offer immense potential, provided exporters maintain strict adherence to international quality standards, competitive pricing, and timely shipment protocols.
This remarkable performance in the Turkish market substantially outpaces Bangladesh's overall national merchandise export growth, which registered a 6.34 percent increase to reach US$13.09 billion during the July–September quarter compared to US$12.31 billion in the previous fiscal year.
Both trade leaders and government bodies continue to encourage stronger business-to-business (B2B) linkages, increased participation in international trade fairs, and enhanced bilateral cooperation to sustain and expand this momentum.
