BMD Predicts Five-Day Light to Moderate Rain Across Divisions as Southwest Monsoon Prepares to Retreat
Overcast skies in Dhaka as the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts rain ahead of the monsoon withdrawal.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds across multiple divisions over the next five days, while signaling the gradual withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the northwestern region by mid-October.

According to a weather bulletin issued Saturday (October 3, 2026) by BMD Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Farooq, scattered showers are expected across Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Barisal divisions through Sunday, October 4. Similar isolated light-to-moderate rain is projected across northern and eastern divisions through Monday and Tuesday (October 5–6), extending to Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions. By Wednesday, October 7, precipitation is expected to concentrate across southern, central, and eastern regions, with day and night temperatures dropping slightly. Daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country are expected to remain largely unchanged for the initial portion of the outlook period. Synoptic conditions indicate that the southwest monsoon is nearing its final phase, with complete withdrawal from the northwestern parts of Bangladesh anticipated following the five-day forecast period.
