All forms of public campaigning, rallies, and loudspeaker publicity for the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary by-election officially came to an end at 8:00 AM on Tuesday (October 27, 2026). The high-decibel political campaigning has given way to quiet anticipation across the constituency as authorities finalize security arrangements for polling day on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
The constituency—comprising Thakurgaon Sadar, Bhulli, and Ruhia upazilas with 22 unions and one municipality—has a total electorate of 5,16,138 voters (2,57,475 men, 2,58,659 women, and 4 third-gender individuals). District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md. Kamrul Islam confirmed that all logistical preparations across the 185 polling centers have been completed. Based on security assessments, 115 polling centers have been categorized as "highly critical," earning heightened security protocols and specialized monitoring.
To ensure peace and prevent electoral misconduct, police forces and 21 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)—comprising over 450 armed personnel alongside K-9 units—have been deployed as mobile and striking forces throughout the electoral zone. Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Md. Belal Hossain and BGB Sector Commander Colonel Md. Suruj Miah reassured the public that strict neutrality will be maintained so voters can exercise their franchise without fear. The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the swearing-in of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as President of Bangladesh. Five candidates are contesting the by-poll, including Mirza Faisal Amin (BNP - Sheaf of Paddy), Md. Delawar Hossain (Jamaat-e-Islami - Scale), Hafez Md. Khademul Islam (Islami Andolan Bangladesh), and Md. Abdul Alim Nizami (Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon).
