Canada's Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday (October 11, 2026) for an official four-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic cooperation, and bolstering strategic development partnerships between Canada and Bangladesh.
According to a press release issued by the High Commission of Canada in Dhaka, Secretary Sarai will hold meetings with senior Bangladeshi government officials, development partners, and private sector representatives during his stay from October 11 to 14. He is scheduled to visit multiple Canadian-funded development initiatives in Dhaka and Cox's Bazar, focusing on institutional capacity building, skill development, youth and women empowerment, and climate resilience.
Since 1971, Canada has provided over CAD 6.3 billion in official development assistance to Bangladesh, directly benefiting globally recognized national institutions like BRAC and icddr,b. Highlighted by bilateral trade exceeding CAD 4 billion in 2025, Ottawa underscored that continued governance and regulatory reforms in Bangladesh will boost investor confidence and unlock new trade avenues. In Cox's Bazar, Sarai will engage with displaced Rohingya refugees, host communities, and international humanitarian agencies.
