The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police arrested a 69-year-old key suspect, Md. Abul Hossain, from Gazipur on Tuesday evening (September 29, 2026) for his involvement in an international human trafficking network that defrauded a female victim of BDT 25.95 lakh under the false pretext of sending her to Italy, subsequently confining and torturing her in Libya for BDT 10 lakh in additional ransom.
Special Superintendent of Police (Media) Md. Chufi Ullah announced at a press conference on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) that a CID operational team raided Karihata village in Kapasia, Gazipur, to apprehend Hossain. According to case documents filed under the Human Trafficking Deterrence and Suppression Act (2012) at Mirpur Model Police Station on September 21, 2025, the trafficking syndicate lured the female victim with promises of Italian employment, taking BDT 25.95 lakh before illegally routing her to Libya on June 12, 2024. Upon arrival, overseas syndicate members held her hostage, subjecting her to severe physical and psychological abuse while demanding an additional BDT 10 lakh from her family. The victim managed to escape her captors before being detained by Libyan authorities and repatriated to Bangladesh on October 16, 2024. CID confirmed that Hossain is also named in another human trafficking case filed at Mirpur Police Station in October 2025, and he has been produced in court with a remand prayer.
