The construction of a brick-built house has begun to ensure shelter for the family of Dilwar Hussain Selim, a helpless day laborer in Balaganj, Sylhet. The house is being built in Narayanpur village under Ward No. 4 of Balaganj Union, funded by the UK-based voluntary organization Nesser's Trust and Asian UK TV.
On Sunday (September 27) afternoon, Balaganj Union Parishad Chairman Md. Abdul Munim formally inaugurated the construction work. Following the inauguration, Maulana Md. Abdur Rahman, Imam of Dakshin Charbhuta Jame Masjid, conducted a special munajat (prayer).
Present at the event were Mamunur Rahman, Bangladesh Representative of Nesser's Trust and Asian UK TV; Sharif Ahmad Chowdhury, President of Osmaninagar Press Club; Shahab Uddin Shaheen, former President of Balaganj Press Club and Executive Member of Osmaninagar Press Club; UP Member Liakat Ali; local elder Alkas Ali; journalists Nazmul Islam, Masum Ahmad, Abdul Haque, Amin Mia, and Abdur Rahman; Nesser's Trust members Shah Nazmul, Rumes Ahmad, Saju Mia, Samad Ahmad, Hamza, Saidur Rahman, and Khaled Ahmad; along with other local dignitaries.
According to Nesser's Trust sources, the organization has long been carrying out humanitarian activities aimed at ensuring housing for helpless and poor people. As part of this continuing effort, 27 brick-built houses have already been constructed and handed over to destitute families. The house under construction for Selim's family will be the 28th house under this initiative. The house will be handed over to him next month upon completion of construction.
Involved sources stated that approximately Tk 5 lakh is spent on constructing each house. This initiative to ensure safe housing for helpless people has been widely praised locally.
The guests present at the inaugural ceremony expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to Nesser's Trust and Asian UK TV for such a humanitarian and public welfare initiative. They remarked that standing beside helpless people in society and arranging a safe shelter is undoubtedly a commendable endeavor.
