Train movement between Dhaka and surrounding national destinations experienced severe disruption early Thursday morning (October 1, 2026) after two wheels of a Chittagong-bound container freight train derailed in the capital's Banani area.
The derailment caused a cumulative backlog at Dhaka Railway Station (Kamalapur), leaving multiple intercity and commuter services stranded at the platforms, including the Teesta Express, Mahanagar Provati, Burimari Express, Ekota Express, and Jamalpur Express. Correspondingly, several incoming trains bound for the capital were forced to halt at neighboring stations, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Tongi, and Joydebpur. Railway recovery crews executed quick salvage operations, fully clearing both lines by 10:00 AM. Dhaka Railway Station Manager Kabir Hossain Molla confirmed that double-line train traffic has resumed and that delayed scheduled services are systematically clearing the congestion to restore normal timetable operations across the network.
