The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a special weather bulletin confirming that Cyclonic Storm "Arnab" over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining Westcentral Bay is rapidly gaining strength as it moves west-northwestward. The system is projected to intensify into a "severe cyclonic storm" by midnight tonight and further escalate into a "very severe cyclonic storm" before making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast of India on October 28, 2026.
According to the bulletin signed by BMD meteorologist Kho. Hafizur Rahman, as of 12:00 PM on Monday (October 26, 2026), the cyclone was centered approximately 840 km southwest of Chattogram port, 775 km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 785 km south of Mongla port, and 755 km south of Payra port. Maximum sustained wind speeds within 54 km of the cyclone center are averaging 62 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 88 km/h.
Due to extremely rough sea conditions around the cyclone core, maritime authorities have instructed Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports to display Distant Warning Signal No. 2. Furthermore, all fishing boats, trawlers, and coastal craft operating in the North Bay and deep sea have been strictly advised to remain close to the coast and exercise extreme caution until further notice.
