The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested contractor Bikash Chandra Shah in connection with the armed assault on the New Guinea Properties housing project and the concurrent vandalism and looting of content creator Salman Muqtadir's studio near ECB Circle in Dhaka.
A operational team from the Gulshan DB Division apprehended Shah during a late-night raid while he was hiding in Magura district on Sunday (October 4, 2026). Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan DB Division A F M Anwar Hossain confirmed the arrest on Monday (October 5, 2026), revealing that although Shah was not initially named in the original First Information Report (FIR), investigative intelligence linked him as a principal organizer responsible for hiring over 200 armed assailants. Investigations disclosed that the violent raid stemmed from a land dispute between project owner Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan and retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Prior to the attack, a planning meeting involving 13 individuals—including Shah and co-accused Shahriar Mahmud—was captured on CCTV at an ECB Circle eatery. Following the meeting, five pickup trucks carrying armed individuals raided the property, firing shots at the main gate around 10:30 PM. Shah’s arrest brings the total number of key suspects apprehended in the case to eight, joining co-defendants Major General (Retd.) Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Mizanur Rahman, Shahriar Mahmud, Shah Alam, Mamun, Aslam, and Munna, who remain under active police remand.
