Speaking during a courtesy call with British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026), Minister Andaleeve Rahman emphasized the necessity of balancing free expression with robust protections against defamatory and misleading content across broadcast and social media channels. State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Chowdhury, also present during the meeting, noted that the government is actively engaging media stakeholders to safeguard journalists' financial security, calling on media owners to assume a responsible role in ensuring worker welfare. British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke congratulated Minister Andaleeve Rahman on assuming office and highlighted the importance of maintaining journalistic ethics and Fact-Checking mechanisms, offering potential institutional cooperation between the UK's Office of Communications (Ofcom) and Bangladesh's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to address digital misinformation and social media governance challenges.
