Dengue fever continues to exact a heavy toll across Bangladesh, with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reporting 4 additional deaths and 1,181 new hospital admissions over the past 24 hours.

According to the regular DGHS dengue bulletin released on Friday (October 16, 2026), the total number of dengue fatalities this year has climbed to 335. The outbreak has seen an alarming surge during the autumn months, with 90 deaths recorded in the first 15 days of October alone. Previous months recorded 148 deaths in September, 43 in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, 1 in May, and 2 each in January and February.

With the 1,181 new patients admitted between Thursday morning and Friday morning, the cumulative number of hospitalizations nationwide has reached 108,440. On a positive note, 1,179 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals over the last 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 102,210. Health experts continue to stress the critical need for mosquito vector control, stagnant water elimination, and prompt medical care upon symptom onset.
