A massive fire swept through Tuptup Resort in the Inani area of Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, on Saturday morning (October 17, 2026), leaving at least five people dead and reducing the beachside establishment to ashes.
Confirming the tragedy, Cox's Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Syed Muhammad Morshed Hossain stated that two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving the emergency call. Although firefighters managed to bring the blaze under partial control, the structure was completely gutted and burnt to cinders.
Fire Service personnel are currently carrying out search and rescue operations amid fear that the casualty figure could rise further as debris is cleared. The exact origin of the morning fire and the total extent of financial damage are yet to be ascertained, with formal investigations set to begin shortly.
