Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon students and the youth generation to take active ownership of keeping their homes, educational institutions, and surroundings clean, emphasizing that civic participation is essential alongside government efforts to combat dengue.
The Prime Minister made these remarks on Saturday (October 17, 2026) while interacting with members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) and Bangladesh Scouts during a dengue prevention cleanliness inspection at Rajuk Uttara Model College. Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister conducted an unannounced surprise inspection at Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, visiting ICU and surgery wards to inquire after patients. Expressing severe dissatisfaction with the hospital's overall sanitation and operational management, he issued a strict seven-day ultimatum to hospital authorities to overhaul environmental hygiene and patient care standards.
Speaking to students in Uttara, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman noted that dengue transmission spikes significantly through November, making proactive cleanliness the most effective defense. Reminding students that municipal workers in a sprawling metropolis of 25 million face capacity limits, he urged every young citizen to act as civic leaders. Additionally, to combat urban heat islands and green space deficits in Dhaka, the Prime Minister advocated a nationwide habit where every student plants at least one tree on family birthdays.
