DNCC Declares Ban on Illegal Footpath Hawkers and Announces Auto-Rickshaw Control Plans
DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan speaking to news media during the Metro Rail pillar graffiti campaign in Mirpur on Friday.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan has declared that hawkers will no longer be permitted to occupy public footpaths across the northern capital, while confirming active inter-city efforts to regulate battery-operated auto-rickshaws.

Speaking on Friday (October 9, 2026) during the inauguration of the "Let's Remake July Graffiti" initiative along Metro Rail pillars in Mirpur, Administrator Khan asserted that key pedestrian walkways—including Mirpur-10—will be systematically cleared and opened for public foot traffic.

He announced a 72-hour drive to remove illegal posters from Metro Rail pillars and replace them with commemorative graffiti celebrating public movements without political bias. Addressing recent street demonstrations by auto-rickshaw operators, Khan alleged that political instigators were exploiting driver issues to disrupt urban order. He called on citizens and political entities to cooperate with civic agencies in preserving public infrastructure, warning that attempts to re-occupy cleared footpaths would be thwarted with community support.
