Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has dismissed widespread social media rumors alleging the permanent removal of memorial plaques honoring the martyrs and freedom fighters of the July Revolution at the Mirpur-10 roundabout.
In an official press release issued on Friday (October 9, 2026), DNCC spokesperson Md. Zakir Hossain clarified that the memorial plaques attached to the Mirpur-10 police box were only taken down temporarily to facilitate structural repairs and regional beautification efforts.
The police box had sustained damage during recent eviction drives, prompting DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton to order immediate renovation work along with the "Let's Remake July Graffiti" initiative launched earlier in the day. City authorities reassured the public that there is no intention to dismantle the memorials permanently; instead, the plaques are being redesigned for enhanced visibility and aesthetic appeal, and will be prominently reinstalled at the Mirpur-10 intersection once infrastructure work concludes.
