Dr. Zubaida Rahman, physician and spouse of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has called upon Japan’s prestigious Sasakawa Peace Foundation to expand its collaboration and resources toward enhancing healthcare services, medical research, maternal and child health, and modern medical infrastructure in Bangladesh.
She made the appeal on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, while addressing a high-level health seminar organized by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Tokyo, Japan.
Drawing from her personal professional experience as a medical doctor, Dr. Zubaida Rahman emphasized that the current Bangladesh government has designated healthcare, education, and social safety nets as primary policy priorities. She highlighted several state initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare accessibility, recruiting health personnel, supporting marginalized communities, and introducing family-based social safety programs such as the Family Card.
Highlighting the growing importance of "Health Diplomacy" in a interconnected world, she stressed that bilateral collaboration between Bangladesh and Japan can effectively address emerging health challenges. Expressing high praise for the foundation's relentless efforts toward vulnerable populations, she assured that the Government of Bangladesh is ready to extend full institutional support for Sasakawa Peace Foundation's expanded operations in the country. The seminar was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of the Nippon Foundation and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
