Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam has officially inaugurated the beautification and modernization work of the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in Ward 11, North Shahjahanpur, as part of an ongoing initiative to create a citizen-friendly and eco-conscious waste management framework.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Monday (October 12, 2026), Administrator Abdus Salam highlighted that protecting the health and dignity of frontline sanitation workers is central to maintaining a clean capital. He announced a death risk allowance of BDT 4 lakh for sanitation workers, along with healthcare agreements signed with nearly 420 hospitals to provide low-cost medical services.
Following the inauguration, protective equipment—including safety gumboots, high-visibility vests, helmets, goggles, gloves, first-aid kits, and warning cones—was distributed to workers in collaboration with 'Harpic' and 'Sajida Foundation.' Addressing business owners and residents, Abdus Salam urged commercial establishments to keep designated dustbins and ensure clean storefronts, emphasizing that disciplined waste disposal drastically reduces dengue risks. DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Mahbubur Rahman Talukder was present as DSCC continues similar STS upgrades across Kalabagan, Old Elephant Road, Malibagh, and Palashi.
