The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has identified the individual responsible for sending a bomb threat email to BRAC University, claiming the suspect is a former student who dropped out and currently resides in the United States. However, BRAC University authorities have disputed the identification, confirming that no current or former student exists in their institutional database under the name provided by law enforcement.
According to responsible officials from the DB Cyber & Special Crime Division, digital forensics and technical assistance from a Dhaka-based foreign embassy enabled investigators to trace the email source ([email protected]). DB officials stated that while the sender signed off as "Mushfiq Rajin," it was a pseudonym used by the ex-student operating via remote networks. Conversely, BRAC University Security Supervisor Md. Ashraful Islam stated that internal record checks covering all current students and alumni yielded no match for "Mushfiq Rajin." He added that police have not formally communicated the suspect's official department or personal details to the university.
The investigation stems from an October 4, 2026 incident where official university inbox addresses received warning messages threatening multiple explosions at the Pragati Sarani permanent campus scheduled for October 6. Following the threat, a formal criminal case was registered at Badda Police Station as cyber crime units and intelligence agencies continue international tracing efforts.
