Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam has announced a zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized street vendors, warning that illegally occupied roads and sidewalks will face immediate eviction, confiscation of goods, and formal legal action.
Speaking to media representatives on Thursday (October 1, 2026) following a field inspection of cleanliness and urban encroachment issues in the Dhalpur area of Dhaka, Administrator Salam confirmed that vending will strictly be prohibited outside DSCC-designated and approved locations, with key arterial routes—such as the stretch from Zero Point to Sadarghat—kept completely clear. Under the new directive, all street vendors operating within DSCC jurisdiction must undergo mandatory registration to bring informal trade under a structured framework. Salam dismissed calls for additional notice periods, noting that eviction decisions were finalized through repeated consultation with vendor leadership. Furthermore, expressing dissatisfaction over prolonged road excavation by Dhaka WASA near the DSCC Region-5 office, Salam emphasized that utility agencies are now required to complete digging works within strict deadlines under bi-weekly inter-agency coordination meetings overseen by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
