Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Shaikh Rabiul Alam stated that ensuring the religious freedom, rights, and security of all citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity is a core responsibility of the state. Speaking as the chief guest at a Sharadiya Durga Puja event organized by the Dhanmondi Sarbojonin Puja Udjapan Committee at Kalabagan Krira Chakra Ground in Dhaka on Friday (October 16, 2026), he emphasized that religious rights are an inherent entitlement of every citizen rather than an act of favor.
Minister Alam asserted that the primary identity of the country's residents is Bangladeshi, leaving no room for division based on religion, caste, or tribe. Condemning the political exploitation of religious sentiments, he urged that religious practice must remain independent, safe, and open to all.
Addressing travel logistics for the upcoming festivities, the minister noted that inter-ministerial decisions have extended public holidays for Durga Puja. Comprehensive preparation has been established across transport, railways, highway security, and electricity departments to ensure smooth transit for devotees traveling to and from Dhaka. Furthermore, state budget allocations for Durga Puja celebrations have been increased this year. Responding to local demands from his constituency, Minister Alam assured Hindu community leaders that the government will assess available land in the area to explore building a permanent Puja Mandap, resolving the annual hassle of temporary structures.
