Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah declared that the upcoming by-election for the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary constituency can be conducted freely, fairly, and peacefully without deploying military forces.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday afternoon (October 14, 2026) following an exchange-of-views meeting at the Thakurgaon District Commissioner's conference room, the Election Commissioner explained that the Election Commission (EC) plans to deploy nearly three times the number of law enforcement personnel compared to standard national general elections. Expressing full satisfaction with the current electoral environment, Sanaullah reiterated that robust security arrangements will guarantee an unhindered voting process on October 29, 2026.
Detailing tech-driven security measures, EC Sanaullah confirmed that all polling centers will be equipped with CCTV cameras whose footage will be preserved for review. Furthermore, law enforcement officers from the Police, BGB, RAB, and Ansar will wear body-worn cameras, while aerial drone surveillance will enable immediate response to any disruptions. Addressing electoral disputes, he noted that the Electoral Inquiry and Adjudication Committee, led by judicial and executive magistrates, has already resolved one of three official complaints, with the remaining two under investigation. Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed also addressed the meeting, instructing vigilance monitoring teams to maintain law and order.
