Fire Service Deploys Nationwide Fire Safety Plan for 31,000+ Durga Puja Mandaps
Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters during the media briefing on Durga Puja security and fire safety protocols.

Fire Service and Civil Defence has put comprehensive operational measures in place to ensure fire safety and rapid emergency response across more than 31,000 Durga Puja mandaps nationwide during the upcoming festival.

Addressing a press conference at the Fire Service Headquarters on Saturday (October 17, 2026), newly appointed Director General Brigadier General Sultanul Afreen Junaid disclosed that all 538 fire stations across Bangladesh have been placed on high alert. Based on historical accident analysis, officers have pre-inspected mandaps to mitigate key hazards—including short circuits from substandard wiring, electrical overloads from unauthorized air conditioner connections, and unmonitored cooking areas behind temporary pandals.

To minimize response times, fire units, equipment, and personnel are being pre-stationed near major mandaps and remote festival sites. The Director General urged puja committees to appoint designated fire safety monitors at every mandal to oversee incense usage and immediately alert the 102 Emergency Hotline upon any outbreak. Operating in close coordination with law enforcement agencies, the Fire Service has activated divisional control cells alongside its Central Emergency Response Control Cell to guard against potential sabotage by opportunistic elements.
