First Consignment of 18 Broad-Gauge Indian Railway Coaches Arrives via Darsana Border
The first consignment of 18 broad-gauge passenger coaches arriving at Darsana International Railway Station from India.

The first consignment of 18 modern broad-gauge (BG) passenger coaches manufactured in India arrived at Darsana International Railway Station in Damurhuda Upazila, Chuadanga, on Friday (October 16, 2026) at 2:35 PM.

The shipment marks the initial delivery under Bangladesh Railway's mega-project to procure 200 broad-gauge passenger carriages from India. A three-member Indian delegation—comprising Traffic Inspector Sujit Ghosh, Junior Engineer Sayeed Ahmed, and Technician Gyan Bindar Singh—arrived to complete the official handover process with Bangladesh Railway authorities.

The coach rake was dispatched at midnight on October 12 from the Rail Coach Factory (Hussainpur) in Kapurthala, Punjab, India, and was supplied via India's state-owned transport infrastructure consultancy, RITES Limited. According to an official order issued by Project Director Md. Jahidul Islam, unloading procedures at Darsana port will be completed by October 18.

Pakshi Divisional Mechanical Engineer Rabiul Islam confirmed the composition of the initial 18-coach delivery: 11 non-AC chair cars, 2 AC sleeper coaches, 3 AC chair cars, and 2 AC power cars. Following clearance at Darsana, the coaches will be hauled to the Saidpur Railway Workshop for technical inspection, commissioning, and mandatory trial runs before being inducted into Western Railway passenger routes. Remaining consignments under the 200-coach agreement will arrive in phased deliveries.
