Foysal Mridha, the main fugitive accused in a case filed over the attempted rape and physical assault of a fifth-grade schoolgirl, has been arrested by SRB-8 in Betagi, Barguna. He was arrested around 2:30 PM on Sunday (September 27) from a house in the Purakata area of Barguna.
According to SRB-8 sources, acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a raid in the Purakata area and apprehended Foysal Mridha. He was later handed over to the local police station for legal proceedings.
According to the case statement and related sources, on September 21, an attempt was made to rape a fifth-grade student of Gabtali Government Primary School in Betagi. Failing to do so, the child was allegedly beaten up. Due to the assault, three of the child's front teeth were uprooted, and two other teeth were broken.
Following the incident, the victim's mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. While other accused individuals in the case were arrested earlier, Foysal Mridha had been in hiding. Locals had staged human chains and various programs demanding his arrest.
Foysal Mridha's arrest has brought a sense of relief among locals.
Betagi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Harun Or Rashid Hawlader said, "The arrested accused has been handed over to us. We were also present during this arrest operation."
