Government to Take Strict Action Against Non-Compliance with Fixed LPG Prices, Advises Media to Highlight Market Violations
Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman outlining government market intervention strategies during a press conference at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The government will take necessary measures if liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is not made available at fixed prices, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman declared during a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday (October 6, 2026), Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman noted that despite global volatility in energy markets, the government is continuously working to adjust and stabilize domestic LPG pricing. Following reports that consumers in several areas face inflated rates, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources instructed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) during a recent virtual meeting to ensure uninterrupted open-market supplies and enforce commission-determined rates for LPG and autogas. Enforcement drives conducted by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and local administration mobile courts have been intensified, accompanied by ongoing consultations with LPG importers and bottlers. Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman emphasized that enforcement alone is not the sole solution, explaining that the government is balancing fair profit margins for businesses to prevent supply shortages while taking regulatory action against non-compliant vendors. He urged media outlets to report specific instances of price gouging in the public interest to assist government monitoring efforts.
