The Southeast Asian nation of Laos has temporarily suspended the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, work permit approvals, and the issuance of labor-category entry visas for Bangladeshi nationals.

According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Laos enacted the moratorium through a directive dated September 9, 2026. The decision retroactively halts quota approvals, recruitment processing, work permit endorsements, and entry visa issuance for Bangladeshi workers from September 1 through December 31, 2026. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Thailand confirmed the visa suspension. In response, the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare cautioned prospective migrant workers against fraudulent job offers, fake visas, and unauthorized recruiting agencies, urging citizens to verify employment proposals through official government channels before making any financial commitments.
