State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has pledged that the government will deliver free, fair, and neutral local government elections across Bangladesh, ensuring a peaceful voting environment for all citizens.

The State Minister made these remarks while addressing journalists at Banani Bidyaniketan School during an event celebrating Global Handwashing Day on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Highlighting the peaceful atmosphere maintained during the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, Mir Shahe Alam stated that the nationwide local government elections scheduled to begin in January 2027 will follow the exact same benchmark of electoral integrity and safety. He underscored that the administration is exercising strict non-interference in the Thakurgaon by-poll, setting the standard for upcoming Union Parishad and municipal elections. Reaffirming the administration's political commitment, the State Minister emphasized that the BNP-led government has no intention of infringing upon the public's democratic voting rights.
