
The government has initiated a Tk 2,498.08-crore project to construct a 442-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power plant on 918.50 acres of BPDB-owned land in Block-B of Rampal, Bagerhat. Proposed by the Power Division and implemented by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the project aims to diversify primary fuel sources, enhance energy security, and reduce carbon emissions.
Financing includes Tk 374.71 crore from BPDB's own fund and Tk 2,123.37 crore from the Power Sector Development Fund at a 2 percent interest rate. Scheduled for implementation between September 2026 and March 2029 following a draft presentation to ECNEC under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the initiative will utilize existing transmission infrastructure from the nearby Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant to add clean energy to the national grid and support the country's target of raising renewable energy's share to 20 percent by 2030.
