Meridul Islam (28)—vice-president of the Ishwardi Government College unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal—was beaten up by a mobile showroom owner and his employees at 'Apple Z' in the Post Office Mor area of Ishwardi, Pabna, on Tuesday afternoon (October 6, 2026). The altercation broke out after the showroom owner Ilyas Ratan and employees Subel and Rahul recognized Meridul when he visited the store to buy a phone, confronting him over a critical comment he had previously posted on social media regarding the store's customer service.

Following the assault, Meridul called the national emergency service number 999, prompting police to arrive, review the showroom's CCTV footage, and detain the three suspects. Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ashadur Rahman confirmed that the detainees were later released after both parties reached a local settlement.
