Power generation at the Barapukuria coal-fired thermal power plant in Parbatipur, Dinajpur, has come to a complete standstill following mechanical faults that shut down its two active units. Confirming the matter today, Tuesday at 4:00 PM, Chief Engineer of the thermal power plant, Bakkar Siddique, stated that the 125 MW Unit 1 was shut down on Monday morning due to mechanical failure, and the 275 MW Unit 3 was similarly taken offline on Tuesday morning for the same reason. As a result, power generation from the plant has completely stopped, causing frequent load shedding across Parbatipur and other northern districts. Chief Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique expressed hope that production can resume shortly once the mechanical issues are resolved. Notably, Unit 2 of the plant (which has a capacity to generate 65 to 77 MW) has remained shut down due to technical faults since November 2020.
