Road Transport Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam and Press Club President Poet Hasan Hafiz at the 72nd National Press Club anniversary event.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam underscored that journalists serve as the conscience of the nation and the mirror of society, calling upon media professionals to continue keeping government, politics, and democracy on the right track.

Speaking as chief guest on Sunday morning (October 18, 2026) at the prize distribution ceremony for the sports competition marking the 72nd Founding Anniversary of the National Press Club, Minister Robiul Alam emphasized that true development involves protecting a heritage institution's history and glorious legacy alongside modern infrastructure expansion.

Addressing the long-standing demand to rename a nearby Dhaka Metro Rail station after the National Press Club, the Minister stated that he agrees with the proposal in principle. He assured that necessary technical feasibility reviews, software adjustments, and financial evaluations will be coordinated directly with the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). Highlighted by the attendance of National Press Club President Poet Hasan Hafiz, senior editors, and journalists, the event celebrated press freedom, sportsmanship, and institutional integrity.
