In a overnight raid in South Keraniganj, police arrested Jahid Hasan Imon (30), a local Jubo League leader, seizing significant quantities of crude bomb-making raw materials alongside 9,000 paper masks intended for covert political demonstrations.
Addressing a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road on Friday afternoon (September 25, 2026), DMP Joint Commissioner (Crime Prevention-South) Md. Tofael Ahmed Miah disclosed details of the operation. Following an investigation into crude bomb explosions near Jatrabari Police Station on September 19, a joint team from Shyampur Model Police Station and South Keraniganj Police Station raided a residence in the Bagashur area during the early hours of Friday.
Authorities recovered 1.5 kg of caustic soda, 1.6 kg of sulfur, 5 kg of marbles, 2 kg of nails, electrical tapes, and grinding equipment used in assembling explosive devices. Additionally, police seized three cartons containing 9,000 paper masks and elastic bands. During interrogation, Imon confessed that the masks were supplied via a Lalbagh political figure to be distributed among activists of the banned Awami League for disguise during unauthorized street processions. Imon already faces active charges in two prior cases filed at Shahbagh and Lalbagh police stations.
