Minister for Food Afroza Khanam emphasized that expanding national food grain storage capacity, modernizing warehouse infrastructure, and implementing long-term preservation systems are critical to ensuring national food security and elevating public living standards.

Addressing an inter-ministerial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at the Directorate General of Food on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026, the Food Minister stated that infrastructure planning must look beyond immediate needs and incorporate a 10 to 15-year future demand horizon. She instructed officials to design grain warehouses with proper ventilation, quality-preservation technology, and healthy working environments, while prioritizing new storage construction in high-production agricultural zones. Highlighting global economic volatility, ongoing international conflicts, and rising fuel prices, Minister Khanam stressed the urgency of building robust food grain buffer stocks.

The event was attended by State Minister for Food and Public Administration Mo. Abdul Bari and State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Monjur as special guests, with Food Secretary Abu Taher Mo. Masud Rana presiding. State Minister Monjur revealed that PWD has launched a digital dashboard-based tracking system to prevent project execution delays. The landmark MoU for modernizing, constructing, and maintaining food warehouses was formally signed by DG of Food Mo. Jashim Uddin Khan and PWD Chief Engineer Mo. Khalequzzaman Chowdhury.
