Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has called on the British High Commission to support Bangladesh in removing the European Union's high-risk designation on Bangladeshi air cargo.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the British High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday evening, the minister highlighted significant improvements in aviation security, pointing out recent assessments by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) that rated Osmani International Airport at 98 percent and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 94 percent.
The high-risk designation, in place since June 2017, requires EU-bound shipments to undergo extra security screening. During the event, Millat also discussed bilateral aviation cooperation, Biman Bangladesh Airlines' fleet modernization plans, the upcoming opening of Cox's Bazar International Airport, and encouraged British investment in the country's growing tourism and aviation sectors.
