Minister Demands Justice for Crimes Against Rohingyas in Meeting With IIMM Chief
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu meeting with Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) Head Nicholas Koumjian at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday.

Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu has demanded international justice for crimes against humanity committed against the forcibly displaced Rohingya population, urging international mechanisms to ensure their safe and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

The Minister made these remarks during a bilateral meeting with Nicholas Koumjian, Head of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026). During the discussion, Minister Dulu called upon the IIMM to play a proactive role in restoring the legitimate rights of the Rohingya people and holding perpetrators accountable. Briefing the Minister, IIMM Chief Nicholas Koumjian revealed that more than 154,000 Rohingya refugees have crossed the border into Bangladesh since early 2024 due to ongoing violence and instability in Rakhine State. These new arrivals join the existing population of over one million displaced Rohingyas already residing in camps in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char. Established under UN Human Rights Council Resolution 39/2 in September 2018 and welcomed by UN General Assembly Resolution 73/264, the Geneva-based IIMM collects, consolidates, preserves, and analyzes evidence of serious international crimes committed in Myanmar since 2011 to assist prosecution in national, regional, and international courts.
