The South-West monsoon has commenced its departure from the western region of Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasting complete monsoon withdrawal from the remainder of the country within the next 48 hours.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Thursday (October 8, 2026) by BMD Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Farooq, the departure phase of the monsoon will bring temporary gusty winds alongside light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across multiple divisions. Until Friday morning, light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions, as well as isolated areas in Barisal and Chittagong divisions, accompanied by moderate heavy falls in localized pockets. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are projected to decrease slightly nationwide before rising again over the weekend. BMD also cautioned that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next five days, which could further influence coastal weather conditions in mid-October.
