Conference discussions at the Minimum Wage Board office in Dhaka during the inaugural meeting on wage restructuring.

The newly constituted Minimum Wage Board for the ready-made garment (RMG) sector expects to formulate and submit its recommendations for a new minimum wage structure within a month, according to Board Chairman and District and Sessions Judge Syed Azad Sobhani.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, following the board’s inaugural meeting at its Segunbagicha conference room in Dhaka, Sobhani assured that the process will not take as long as previous wage revisions. The meeting, which commenced at 11:25 AM, brought together labor and management representatives amidst ongoing garment sector unrest. The government had appointed the board members on November 1.

While refraining from giving a hard deadline regarding whether wages would be implemented by December, the chairman emphasized that both labor and employer representatives engaged constructively during the introductory session. He urged workers to place their trust in the board's procedures. The second meeting of the board is scheduled for next week, giving stakeholders time to consult with experts and submit formal proposals.
