Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram expressed deep grief and shock over the passing of veteran politician, BNP Central Executive Committee Commerce Affairs Secretary, and former Member of Parliament Salauddin Ahmed.

In a condolence message, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaisar Kamal and Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni also issued joint condolence statements. Salauddin Ahmed passed away on Tuesday night (October 13, 2026) while undergoing treatment for age-related health complications at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 80.

The late leader's namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to take place at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), where political leaders across the spectrum, parliamentary colleagues, and local activists will gather to pay their final respects. A dominant and beloved political figure in Dhaka's Shyampur-Kadamtali region, Salauddin Ahmed was elected to Parliament three times from the Dhaka-4 constituency on BNP's 'Sheaf of Paddy' ticket during the 5th (1991), 6th (February 1996), and 8th (2001) National Parliamentary elections.
