The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs has recommended formulating clear national guidelines for electricity consumption in mosques and launching rooftop solar power projects to harness renewable energy across religious institutions.
The recommendation was put forward during the maiden meeting of the Standing Committee under the 13th National Parliament, chaired by Committee Chairman Rafiqul Islam Jamal MP at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday (October 6, 2026). In addition to green energy initiatives for mosques, the parliamentary body emphasized establishing structured regulations for state-funded Hajj pilgrimages and urged the immediate transfer of medical officers who have served in the same posting for extended periods across hospitals and healthcare missions managed by the Islamic Foundation. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was submitted detailing the 180-day action plans, staffing structures, budgets, and electoral manifesto implementation strategies of the Ministry's affiliated bodies—including the Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh Waqf Administration, and the Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian Religious Welfare Trusts. Committee members, including Azharul Islam Mannan MP, Md. Zahidur Rahman MP, and Suborna Sikder MP, called for heightened accountability and operational efficiency across all religious trust operations.
