The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has successfully solved the two-and-a-half-year-old murder and robbery case of 19-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Rahul in Nawabganj, Dhaka, arresting five individuals involved in the crime.
Speaking at a media briefing at the PBI Dhaka District office in Uttara on Thursday (October 8, 2026), Superintendent of Police M. N. Morshed stated that the murder was orchestrated under the suspicion that Rahul was leaking information regarding local Yaba narcotics sales. According to PBI investigators, the victim was lured to an open field on the night of February 6, 2024, where the suspects administered Yaba to him before brutally assaulting him with an iron angle, blade, and heavy vehicle battery, ultimately suffocating him. The suspects—identified as Md. Samez (32), Md. Sabuj Mia (28), Khabir alias Gobinda (28), Md. Habib alias Sojol (36), and Lalon Miah (43)—concealed the body at a livestock farm before dumping it near a local workshop, subsequently selling the victim's auto-rickshaw and dividing the proceeds. Two of the arrestees, Sabuj Mia and Lalon Miah, have given confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in court.
