State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam has expressed solidarity with non-government teachers and employees, asserting that the nationalization of their jobs is an inevitable step toward elevating their dignity and living standards.
Speaking as a special guest at a conference organized by the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance (Shikkhak Kormochari Oikya Jote) at the Engineers' Institute auditorium in Ramna on Thursday morning (October 8, 2026), the State Minister highlighted the current administration's commitment to reviving the education sector during its seven months in office. He announced that despite financial constraints, a special fund of BDT 2,000 crore has been established to disburse retirement benefits to approximately 100,000 teachers who retired between 2022 and 2026. Furthermore, Shahe Alam outlined a new initiative by the Ministry of Education to provide grants to educational institutions for installing 5.5 kW rooftop solar panels—allowing schools to ensure uninterrupted power while earning BDT 5,000 to 10,000 monthly by feeding surplus electricity into the national grid. Clarifying legal policy, he noted that until non-government educational institutions are fully nationalized, teachers face no legal bar against participating in local government elections. The event was attended by Member of Parliament and teacher leader Principal Md. Salim Bhuiyan, Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance General Secretary Chowdhury Mugees Uddin Mahmud, and Bangladesh Teachers' Association General Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain.
