Permanent Solution to Rohingya Crisis Lies in Myanmar, Declares PM Tarique Rahman During Tokyo Summit
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi following their bilateral talks in Tokyo.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) that the permanent resolution to the Rohingya crisis lies squarely within Myanmar, reiterating the necessity of ensuring the voluntary, safe, dignified, and swift repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to their homeland.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Prime Minister's Office (Kantei) in Tokyo, Japan.

According to PM's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Swadhin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed deep concern over the deteriorating internal conflict in Myanmar and its resulting humanitarian fallout. He called for an immediate end to violence, unhindered humanitarian access, and inclusive dialogue among all stakeholders. He also commended Japan's sustained financial and diplomatic assistance toward Bangladesh's humanitarian efforts in housing displaced Rohingyas from Rakhine State.

In addition to humanitarian affairs, the summit prioritized bilateral trade, foreign direct investment, energy security, technology transfer, space research, and infrastructure development. Outlining Bangladesh’s macroeconomic growth roadmap, PM Tarique Rahman stated that Bangladesh is projected to become the world’s 9th largest consumer economy by 2030 and reach a $1 Trillion USD GDP by 2034. Recalling his father martyred President Ziaur Rahman's two historic visits to Japan and his mother former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s role in bolstering bilateral ties, he pledged to take the Bangladesh–Japan strategic partnership to new heights during his ongoing four-day official state visit.
