Physical assault on doctors following patient deaths in hospitals is completely unacceptable, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman stated during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Addressing media inquiries regarding healthcare mismanagement and ongoing public distress, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman explained that blaming doctors alone fails to capture the full picture of systemic challenges within the healthcare infrastructure. Expressing concern over rising incidents of workplace violence against medical personnel—including attacks taking place after patients were pronounced deceased in emergency units—the Adviser noted that while malpractice should not be blindly defended, physical violence against medical professionals cannot be tolerated. He further addressed deep-rooted corruption across national institutions over the past 15 years, affirming that the Health Minister is working on-site to execute reforms alongside a near-doubling of health sector budget allocations. Regarding corruption metrics, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman urged observers to focus on changes in Bangladesh's Transparency International numerical scores rather than raw ranking positions, noting that progressive score improvements reflect continuous institutional anti-corruption efforts.
